Joe Greenstein was my first cousin born to Marshall and Ann Greenstein in Brooklyn NY on February 13, 1941. Marshall was my mother's brother. I was born 6 days later. In those days our parents planned!
Our families spent time together and Joe and I grew up on the streets of Brooklyn as close as any brothers. Joe was an artist from the beginning while my technical career started at the age of five. Despite such diverse orientations our interests overlapped greatly. We both had inquiring minds and felt if "they" could do it, we could too.
The things we shared ranged from street games, sports, museum visits, street fights with common enemies, competition over first girl friends plus sharing of those experiences. We often travelled together, just got in the car and drove off into the night to see where the road would take us. Once we parked in a field and were awakened by a farmer waving a 12 gauge at us through the windshield - damn kids! We collaberated constantly on an amazing variety of projects and adventures. We both loved 50's rock and roll and had many groups that performed for fun and commercially.
My late wife Carol loved Joe like a brother and we three spent much time together. Later on Joe travelled a lot and lived a seperate life while Carol and I raised our family. When Carol became ill and ultimately passed away Joe helped me mightily in the most personal ways.
My present wife Jean also loved Joe and greatly encouraged our renewed association. Some of our biggest projects evolved in that time. We were thrilled to be at each other's weddings.
Joe was visually oriented and I felt a video would be a great way to keep his memory alive and fresh. You can download a higher resolution self-playing version at this link
Joe was his own man and lived life on his own terms. He dealt with his final illness the same way. He was a great guy and I'll always hold him in my heart.
